St Petersburg's sire Nureyev requires little introduction. His reputation as one of the greatest sires of modern times precedes him.
The Champion 3 year old of France, Nureyev went on to produce no less than 131 Stakes Winners, including 21 individual champions,
such as Spinning World, Peintre Celebre, Soviet Star, Stravinsky, Fasliyev, Miesque, Theatrical, Polar Falcon, Zilzal and Realms of Verse. St Petersburg also boasts a top female family. He is from the well related and highly successful broodmare Miss Bold Appeal (by Valid Appeal), who has also left the outstanding Champion filly Jersey Girl, rated Joint Top International 3YO Sprinter of 1998 with 3 Group I wins along with 4 further stakes wins.

The highlight of St Petersburgs racing career came during the Melbourne Spring Carnival where he powered to victory in the
VRC Chivas Regal Stakes Group 3, over the famous straight 1200m at Flemington. From a total of just 11 life-time starts St Petersburg's other
notable performances include a fourth in the Group One VRC Lightning Stakes. It is fair to say the St Petersburg only ever competed at the highest level
- 9 of his 11 starts were in group or listed races including four Group One events.
Both Peter Hayes and Tony McEvoy had huge respect for St Petersburg's natural speed and talent: |
